Inventor(s) include Jain; Dr Murugan R; Arunprakash S; Mannem Srija; Ambaldhage Anusha; Sugantha Kumar B; and Bedanta Saikia.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The proposed Intra-City Smart Carpooling System is a structured, AI-driven uiban mobility framework designed to reduce traffic congestion, fuel consumption, pollution, and commuting stress in metropolitan cities such as Bangalore. Unlike conventional ride-sharing platforms that operate primarily as commercial ride-hailing services, this invention focuses on structured, community-based, and route-optimized shared commuting. The system introduces an intelligent AI-based dynamic ride matching engine that connects drivers and passengers traveling along similar routes in real-time. It considers multiple parameters including traffic density, route overlap percentage, time compatibility, user comfort preferences, and pickup efficiency to minimize detours and optimize travel duration. A unique feature of this invention is the Hyper-Local Trusted Pooling Model, where users are grouped within neighborhoods, tech parks, educational institutions, and corporate campuses. This localized grouping enhances trust, safety, and repeat ride behavior. The platform integrates seamlessly with public transportation systems such as BMTC and Namma Metro to address first-mile and last-mile connectivity challenges. Users can combine carpool rides with metro or bus services for complete door-to-door transport efficiency. The invention further incorporates advanced safety mechanisms including Aadhaarbased profile verification, real-time GPS tracking, encrypted in-app communication, SOS emergency alerts, and behavior-based rating systems. The system is built on scalable cloud infrastructure (A WS/Firebase compatible), ensuring high availability, data security, and adaptability for city-wide deployment. It also includes an environmental impact analytics module that tracks fuel savings, emission reduction, and congestion reduction metrics in real time. Aligned with Smart City initiatives and sustainable development goals, this invention transforms informal carpooling into a structured, reliable, and scalable urban mobility solution."
