MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641019835 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 20, for 'intelligent walking stick with vision assisted navigation system.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Poovarasan Murugaiyan; Dr Nithya Shree P; and Dr. Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A walking stick with a vision-assisted navigator system is introduced by this invention. intended to improve independent mobility and safety for elderly, visually impaired and orthopedic individuals. The camera on the stick aids in capturing and providing real-time feedback, making it possible to identify obstructions while walking. This gadget is lightweight, has a wide stick and easy to use on a regular basis. GPS helps users monitor continuously, improving situational awareness and lowering the danger of falls by integrating career assistance with assisted navigation safety monitoring. The walking sticks which are currently available in the market can only be used as an aid, it will not detect any obstacles or not inbuilt with any GPS tracking device. This invention offers people with mobility or vision impairments a comprehensive mobility aid that greatly enhances their confidence and quality of life."
