MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641008461 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Jan. 28, for 'intelligent traffic control system and method for emergency vehicle detection and crash alerts.'

Inventor(s) include Nirmala Paramanandham; Sailesh S; and Sibi Narayanan M.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system (100), designed for intelligent emergency vehicle detection and crash alert management at traffic intersections. It encompasses a camera module (102) to capture real-time images and video streams of the traffic environment, and a microphone module (104) to record audio signals, including sirens from approaching emergency vehicles. A microcontroller unit (106) processes this data to identify emergency vehicles and detect crash events. A machine learning module (108) further analyzes the processed data to distinguish sirens from ambient urban sounds and confirm emergencies. A communication protocol unit (110) transmits alerts and detection signals to external traffic management systems, emergency response units, and connected vehicles for coordinated action. Additionally, the system (100) includes a user interface (112), displaying emergency alerts, visual indicators, and system status updates. It also provides navigation assistance and routing information to emergency vehicles, enabling optimized path planning and rapid response for traffic safety and emergency handling."
