MUMBAI, India, Dec. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511086610 A) filed by Thapar Institute Of Engineering And Technology, Patiala, Punjab, on Sept. 12, for 'intelligent self learning framework for visually impaired individuals.'
Inventor(s) include Ayushi Verma; Yash Sharma; Manas Mishra; Anirudh Agarwal; Dr. Amrita Kaur; and Dr. Anupam Garg.
The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an intelligent self-learning framework, for visually impaired individuals, specifically targeting the Punjabi language. This open-source solution integrates a text-to-Braille scanner with a novel, low-cost, refreshable Braille display. The system addresses the critical need for affordable and accessible educational tools in regions where traditional Braille materials are scarce and expensive. It functions by capturing text images, processing them through an OCR engine for Punjabi character recognition, and then converting the digital text into tactile Braille patterns. The display utilizes electromagnetism to actuate Braille pins (104), offering a compact, portable, and energy-efficient reading experience. Manufacturing through 3D printing significantly reduces production costs, making the device economically viable."
