MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631031081 A) filed by Asansol Engineering College, Asansol, West Bengal, on March 15, for 'intelligent robotic system for road condition monitoring.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Shiv Charan Puri; Dr. Avishek Banerjee; Aqdas Sultan; Faiz Hussain; Apoorva Pandit; and Abhishek Ranjan Sinha.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Intelligent Robotic System for Road Condition Monitoring An autonomous multi-modal robotic system is disclosed for the real-time monitoring and evaluation of road surface conditions. The apparatus comprises a mobile platform equipped with an ultrasonic sensor array for detecting surface irregularities such as potholes and water-logging, a microcontroller for processing sensor data, and a wireless module for remote telemetry. The system is configured to autonomously scan road surfaces, categorize the severity of defects, and transmit diagnostic data to a centralized monitoring interface. Furthermore, the invention provides a mechanism for verifying externally reported road hazards by navigating to specific coordinates and performing localized surface analysis. This system offers a low-cost, scalable, and efficient solution for infrastructure maintenance, improving road safety and supporting the development of smart-city transportation frameworks through continuous and reliable road quality assessment."
