MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531097608 A) filed by Narula Institute Of Technology, Kolkata, West Bengal, on Oct. 9, 2025, for 'intelligent medicine dispenser with sensor-based intake, stock monitoring with real-time alert mechanism for elderly person.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Md. Ashifuddin Mondal; Kanishka Kumar Shaw; Dr. Subhram Das; Dr. Papri Ghosh; and Debrupa Pal.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A Smart Medicine Box for aged care is proposed as a new healthcare solution that incorporates visual display, voice reminders, intake detection, and stock tracking of medicines in a seamless manner. Focused on improving medication compliance and minimizing human error, the system schedules and monitors automatically by integrating sensor-based verification with microcontroller-based logic to alert users with timely reminders and confirmatory prompts. Wi-Fi enabled, the box allows secure, real-time data exchange between patient and caregivers for remote monitoring of dosage adherence and inventory levels. By sensing when medications have indeed been taken, and sending automated alerts under anomaly conditions-like missed doses or low inventory-the box creates a proactive safety net around the user's health regimen. This intelligent system closes the accessibility gap commonly experienced by older adults by providing a simple-to-use interface supplemented with voice guidance and good visual information. It makes routine medication a dynamic and smart process, allowing seniors to live independently while keeping the family and healthcare providers informed and engaged."
