MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641042131 A) filed by Jeevitha K; Roshini R K; Harini M; and Shri Yazhini A, Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, on April 1, for 'intelligent iot-based water quality monitoring with biological contamination detection.'
Inventor(s) include Jeevitha K; Roshini R K; Harini M; and Shri Yazhini A.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered smart water detection system with biological threat analysis for real-time water quality monitoring and intelligent purification control. The system comprises multi-parameter sensing units configured to measure pH, turbidity, total dissolved solids (TDS), temperature, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen using electrochemical and optical sensing techniques. An embedded processing unit based on a microcontroller with wireless communication capability performs signal acquisition through an analog front-end circuit and executes preprocessing including adaptive filtering, sensor fusion, and automatic calibration. The processed data is transmitted to a cloud-based platform using a lightweight communication protocol for real-time visualization, remote monitoring, and data logging. A hybrid machine learning framework incorporating supervised and unsupervised algorithms including Random Forest, artificial neural network, gradient boosting, and time-series forecasting is implemented for classification of water quality and prediction of biological contamination. Edge-based artificial intelligence processing enables local decision-making, while cloud analytics provide predictive modeling and long-term trend analysis. The system further incorporates relay-controlled purification activation, adaptive purification stage selection, ultraviolet sterilization control, and predictive filter maintenance. Additional features include anomaly detection, geo-tagged monitoring, multi-node IoT networking, blockchain-based secure data logging, over-the-air firmware update capability, energy-efficient power management, solar-powered operation, mobile application integration, and intelligent alert mechanisms. The proposed system provides a scalable, low-cost, and intelligent solution for proactive biological threat detection, automated purification, and continuous remote monitoring, thereby enhancing drinking water safety and supporting smart environmental and public health management applications."
