MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641022332 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 25, for 'intelligent eye controlled hybrid wheelchair bed system.'
Inventor(s) include Vignesh Balachandar; Dr. Manisha Jayakumar; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.
The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention presents an intelligent hybrid pneumatic-electrical mobility system capable of functioning as both a powered wheelchair and a fully adjustable medical bed. The system employs high-load pneumatic actuators coordinated by electronic control to enable automated transformation, body positioning, and pressure redistribution. An eye-tracking interface provides hands-free user control, while LIDAR-based environment sensing ensures collision avoidance and spatial safety during motion and transformation. Integrated sensor arrays and stabilization mechanisms deliver real-time safety monitoring, caregiver alerts, and fail-safe operation, thereby enhancing independence, comfort, and clinical care for users with severe mobility limitations."
