MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641061828 A) filed by Vallurupalli Nageswara Rao Vignana Jyothi Institute Of Engineering And Technology, Hyderabad, Telangana, on May 15, for 'intelligent biometric medicine dispensing system with scheduled multi-user monitoring and secure authentication control.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Sudha Rani.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An intelligent medicine dispensing system for elderly and visually impaired users is disclosed. The system includes medicine compartments (110), actuator motors (111), controller unit (112), real-time clock module (113), fingerprint authentication module (114), memory (115), display (116), audible alert unit (117), communication module (118), and confirmation interface (119). At scheduled times, the controller activates reminder alerts and requests biometric verification. Upon successful authentication, only the assigned compartment opens to dispense medicine. After retrieval, caregiver notifications are transmitted through GSM, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or network channels. Missed-dose escalation alerts may also be generated. Optional machine-learning fingerprint recognition, environmental sensing, weight-based retrieval detection, and battery backup improve safety and reliability. The invention reduces missed doses, prevents unauthorized access, and improves medication adherence."
