MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122860 A) filed by Meenakshi Academy Of Higher Education And Research; Meenakshi Ammal Dental College and Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'integrated saliva ejector system with ph monitoring for preventive dentistry applications.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. R. J. Vijayashree; and Deepanjali Megarasu.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a saliva ejector system integrated with a pH-monitoring mechanism for real-time biochemical assessment during dental procedures. The device comprises a suction aperture for intraoral fluid evacuation, a fluid-flow tube made of transparent biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA), and a pH indicator positioned inside the tube in direct contact with saliva. The pH indicator is implemented either as a color-changing strip providing visual pH cues or as an electronic sensor capable of delivering digital pH readouts. The suction aperture, tube, and pH-sensing element are structurally unified to enable simultaneous salivary suction and continuous pH monitoring without interrupting workflow. The invention enhances preventive dentistry by allowing immediate detection of acidic or low-buffering saliva, improves clinical efficiency by eliminating separate diagnostic tools, and supports eco-friendly disposal through the use of biodegradable materials."
