MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641063510 A) filed by Larsen & Toubro Limited, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on May 19, for 'integrated process for enhanced biogas production via co-digestion with spent mushroom substrate.'
Inventor(s) include Er. Rajeevan K; Dr. Vijaysai Prasad; Dr. P Ganesh Kumar; Dr. Suneeti Sundar; Dr. Chandra Sekarenthiran S; and Er. Kotte Sai Raj.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention provides a novel and improved process for enhancing biogas production from lignocellulosic substrate. It specifically addresses the challenge of degrading recalcitrant lignocellulosic biomass, such as paddy straw, by employing a biological pretreatment using selected microbial consortium from a group consisting of macro-fungi. The pretreated substrate is then co-digested with sewage sludge (SS) in a specific volatile solids ratio and thereby enhanced biogas was reported. The invention offers a sustainable, energy-efficient and cost-effective alternative to energy-intensive chemical and thermal pretreatment methods. It simultaneously addresses environmental concerns by providing a valuable pathway for the utilization of agricultural waste, reducing open-field burning, and producing a nutrient-rich biofertilizer as a co-product."
