MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641018873 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 19, for 'integrated iot-ai elder safety system with fall detection, health monitoring, and emergency response.'
Inventor(s) include S Vinila Jinny; Angulakshmi M; and J Jabanjalin Hilda.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Integrated IoT-AI Elder Safety System with Fall Detection, Health Monitoring, and Emergency Response. The invention relates to an integrated IoT-AI elder safety system that provides continuous, autonomous monitoring of elderly individuals within their homes using wearable sensors, ambient environmental sensors, a centralized IoT processing unit, and an emergency alert module. The wearable device captures real-time motion and activity information, while environmental sensors collect contextual room data to assist in validating fall-like events. Sensor data is transmitted to the IoT processing platform, which evaluates incoming values against predefined thresholds to detect sudden acceleration, abnormal movement patterns, prolonged inactivity, or fall signatures. When the functional decision-making flow identifies a fall or critical condition, the system transitions into an emergency-response mode and automatically sends alerts to caregivers or designated contacts. The integrated operational framework enables reliable fall detection, abnormal behavior identification, and timely emergency notification without requiring manual intervention by the elder."
