MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122207 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 4, 2025, for 'integrated biosurfactant production and heavy metal remediation using pseudomonas panipatensis.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Dhanya V; Mr. Vijune Lawrence L; and Ms. Nandini J Nair.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a method (100) for integrated biosurfactant production and heavy metal remediation. The method includes collecting cow dung and soil samples from contaminated sites (102), preparing enrichment cultures using MRS and LB broths (104), isolating bacterial strains through serial dilution (114), performing molecular identification using 16S rRNA sequencing (116) to confirm isolation of Pseudomonas panipatensis, acclimatizing the Pseudomonas panipatensis to increasing copper concentrations (126), preparing biochar from marine algae through pyrolysis (122), preparing mineral salt medium supplemented with glucose (132), conducting the process under two conditions including a first set with glucose-supplemented medium and a second set with glucose and biochar (134), inoculating acclimatized bacteria into experimental sets (134), simultaneously removing heavy metal ions and producing biosurfactants (142, 148), and extracting biosurfactants from culture supernatants (148)."
