MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611024044 A) filed by Chandigarh University, Mohali, Punjab, on Feb. 28, for 'innovative eco-friendly mobile cooling solution using phase change technology.'
Inventor(s) include Paras Gupta; and Harsh Sharma.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a biodegradable mobile phone case integrated with a passive thermal management system for preventing smartphone overheating during intensive usage. The case incorporates a Phase Change Material (PCM) layer configured to absorb excess heat by undergoing a controlled phase transition at a predetermined temperature. A bio-based, non-toxic coolant flows through embedded micro-channels to uniformly distribute and dissipate heat, thereby preventing localized hotspots. The case is manufactured from sustainable, biodegradable materials, reducing environmental impact compared to conventional plastic cases. A modular, replaceable cartridge houses the PCM and coolant, enabling easy maintenance and extended usability. The system operates entirely without external power, fans, or active cooling components. An optional temperature sensor may monitor device temperature and provide user alerts."
