MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621032541 A) filed by Re-Earth Foodscience Llp, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on March 18, for 'industrial process for extraction and purification of high-purity protein isolate from water lentil biomass.'

Inventor(s) include Vishal Rasikbhai Avaiya.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an improved and scalable process for extraction and purification of plant-based protein from water lentil biomass belonging to the genera Lemna and Wolffia. The process comprises cleaning and preparing the biomass followed by size reduction to increase surface area for efficient extraction. The processed biomass is subjected to solvent-based defatting to remove lipid components. The defatted biomass is then suspended in an aqueous medium and subjected to alkaline extraction under controlled pH and temperature conditions to solubilize proteins. The resulting slurry is subjected to solid-liquid separation using filtration or centrifugation to remove starch, fibers, and other insoluble materials. The clarified protein-rich extract is subsequently acidified to a pH near the isoelectric point to precipitate protein curd. The precipitated protein is separated and optionally treated for decolorization before drying using spray drying or vacuum drying techniques to obtain a stable protein concentrate or protein isolate suitable for food, nutraceutical, and dietary applications."
