MUMBAI, India, Jan. 8 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511102489 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Oct. 24, 2025, for 'improved traffic sign detection system for road vehicles and a method thereof.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An improved traffic sign detection system for road vehicles and a method thereof, comprises a vehicle-mounted imaging module for capturing real-time road images, a processing unit configured to detect traffic signs using an improved YOLOv5s-based protocol, the protocol includes an M-ASPP module that improves detection at different scales without losing details, a BiFPN module that fuses high-level semantic and low-level location features, an additional small target detection head for small traffic signs, and an NWD loss function to reduce errors and improve detection accuracy, the system operates in adverse weather including snow and rain, and a method is provided that includes capturing 201 images, detecting 202 traffic signs using the protocol, outputting 203 improved detection including small and low-resolution signs, and displaying them to a driver-assistance or vehicle infotainment means."
