MUMBAI, India, Sept. 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421020350 A) filed by Nirmala Mehta; and Devendrakumar Mehta, Maharashtra, on March 19, 2024, for 'improved investment casting process for automatic sprue cutting with metal filled by gravity.'

Inventor(s) include Nirmala Mehta; and Devendrakumar Mehta.

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 26, under issue no. 39/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Improved investment casting process with metal poured under gravity for automatic sprue cutting presents a novel process aimed at eliminating the need for cutting by draining the main feeder metal before solidification. Traditional casting processes require the manual or machine cutting of cast pieces from the central feeder, adding complexity, time, and cost to production while introducing the risk of defects. Present method utilizes existing investment casting equipment, applying vacuum/air pressure & drain sprue [103b] to facilitate drainage of the central feeder[103], allowing for automatic disconnection of cast pieces[103c] before solidification. The disclosed process, for the investment casting industry, reduces production time, costs. The steps involved in the proposed method and introduces a supplementary device [102] for collecting canter rod metal."
