MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641062381 A) filed by Adichunchanagiri University; and Adichunchanagiri Institute Of Medical Sciences, Mandya, Karnataka, on May 16, for 'impedance audiometry in geriatric population with hearing loss - a cross sectional study.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Aswathy M P; and Dr. Kiran M Naik.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a novel integrated diagnostic system and method for comprehensive evaluation of hearing loss in geriatric patients aged 60 years and above using combined impedance audiometry and pure tone audiometry performed on the same individuals. This approach enables precise assessment of middle ear function alongside the degree and type of hearing loss, facilitating early differentiation between sensorineural, conductive, and mixed hearing loss patterns commonly associated with presbycusis. By correlating tympanometry, stapedial reflex testing, and pure tone thresholds, the system improves diagnostic accuracy, identifies subtle middle ear abnormalities even in predominantly sensorineural cases and supports personalized rehabilitation strategies, thereby enhancing quality of life while reducing the progression of associated complications such as social isolation and cognitive decline."
