MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631004206 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Patna, Bihar, on Jan. 15, for 'illumination-enhanced retinopathy classification with weighted ensemble fusion.'
Inventor(s) include Datta, Hrijuta; and Bhandari, Ashish Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a retinopathy classification system (100) and a method (400) for automated retinopathy stage prediction from retinal fundus images (106). The system (100) includes a preprocessing unit (108), an illumination enhancement unit (112) with a deep curve estimation network (114) generating pixel-wise curve maps (212) and a contrast enhancement unit (116) applying dynamic CLAHE in LAB color space, an ensemble classification unit (118) with multiple networks (120) and a transformer network (122) connected in parallel, and a weighted averaging fusion unit (124) combining probability outputs (308) to classify enhanced fundus images (214) into retinopathy stages (130). Unlike conventional approaches that treat enhancement and classification as isolated stages, this integrated framework achieves robust detection of subtle retinal abnormalities across varying fundus image quality conditions through complementary convolutional and transformer feature extraction."
