The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to identification of active principles responsible for hypoglycaemic activity in rhizomes of Curcuma leucorrhiza Roxb. The method involves a systematic extraction sequence beginning with the collection, cleaning, and homogenization of dried rhizomes into a fine powder. This powder is subsequently subjected to maceration in ethanol at a specific weight-to-volume ratio of approximately 1:5 for a minimum duration of seven days at room temperature, utilizing intermittent stirring to optimize solute recovery. Following extraction, the mixture is filtered and the resulting primary filtrate is centrifuged for 10 minutes to effectively isolate the supernatant from residual particulates. The solvent is then removed from the supernatant under reduced pressure using rotary vacuum evaporation. The process concludes with the lyophilization of the concentrated extract to yield a substantially dry solid form. The metabolites were extracted using 80% methanol. The supernatant was vacuum dried and resuspended in 50% methanol for mass spectrometry. A total of 20 compounds possessing hypoglycaemic activity were identified."
