MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122511 A) filed by New Prince Shri Bhavani College Of Engineering And Technology; Ms. S. Hemalatha; Ms. A. Anushiya; and Mrs. M. Suganya, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'hybrid mesh -iot kit for uninterrupted disaster communication.'
Inventor(s) include Ms. S. Hemalatha; Ms. A. Anushiya; and Mrs. M. Suganya.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Communication failure is one of the most critical challenges during natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods and cyclones. When cellular towers collapse, power supply is disrupted and internet access becomes unavailable, sun;ivors and rescue teams are left without any reliable means of coordination. This results in severe delays in rescue operations, ineffective resource allocation and unnecessary loss of lives. Existing solutions like satellite phones are costly, limited in number and impractical for large scale rapid deployment. The proposed invention introduces a Hybrid Disaster Communication Kit that ensures uninterrupted, scalable and cost effective communication in both offline and online scenarios. The system is built around ESP32 based nodes that form a decentralized mesh network during offline operation. In this mode it enables the real-time GPS based SOS alerts, priority and group messaging, node health monitoring and live mesh topology mapping without requiring internet or cellular connectivity. This makes it possible for survivors and field responds to stay connected even in isolated conditions. When connectivity is restored the system automatica:tly switches to lOT enabled mode through a gateway node. In this mode, the gateway synchronizes data with a cloud platform enabling Alpowered disaster alert forwarding, cloud logging of SOS data and two-way multimedia exchange between survivors and the command Centre. A survivor self- check-in feature further reduces rescue workload and enhances situational awareness for authorities. Designed for portability and rapid deployment, the kit is lightweight, compact and operates on low power or solar Page I of 2 backup, making it suitable for disaster-hit regions, rural connectivity and large scale events. It's .dual mode adaptability seamlessly shifting between offline mesh networking and online lOT integration provides. unmatched reliability compared to existing solutions. By bridging the gap between isolated communities and centralized response teams, this system significantly improves real-time coordination, resource distribution and emergency response efficiency. The invention is a low cost, scalable and lifesaving communication solution ensuring that no call for help goes unheard during critical emergency."
