MUMBAI, India, July 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521056404 A) filed by Dr. Rajani P. K.; Tushar Sadanand Alande; Tejas Sandeep Bhonde; Aryan Anand Bharaswadkar; and Harshal Harihar Dharmapurikar, Pune, Maharashtra, on June 11, for 'hybrid electric wheelchair with integrated solar- kinetic energy harvesting and adaptive smart propulsion control system.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Rajani P. K.; Tushar Sadanand Alande; Tejas Sandeep Bhonde; Aryan Anand Bharaswadkar; and Harshal Harihar Dharmapurikar.

The application for the patent was published on July 11, under issue no. 28/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a hybrid electric wheelchair system (100) powered by multiple energy sources including a solar panel module (102), kinetic energy harvester assembly (104) on wheels (106), and regenerative braking unit (108). The system (100) uses a lithium-ion battery pack (110) rated at 24V/20Ah for energy storage. An intelligent propulsion control unit (112) manages power distribution among the three sources, enhancing efficiency by up to 30%. The adaptive energy harvesting algorithm embedded in control unit (112) optimizes energy capture depending on user activity and environmental conditions, providing up to 8 hours of continuous operation. The integration of modules (102), (104), and (108) with battery pack (110) reduces external charging frequency, thereby increasing mobility autonomy. This multi-source energy harvesting system (100) offers a sustainable, eco-friendly, and user-friendly solution to improve the operational lifespan and functionality of electric wheelchairs."
