MUMBAI, India, Nov. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411025429 A) filed by Chandigarh University; and Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator, Mohali, Punjab, on March 28, 2024, for 'high voltage insulator disc breaking device.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A high voltage insulator disc breaking device, comprising, a ring-shaped body 5 constructed with a pair of curved-shaped extendable members 1 having first ends configured with each other and second ends initially stored away from each other, developed to be accommodated around an electric pole, a laser acuity sensor for detecting diameter of the pole, a motorized hinge 11 configured between the first ends for tilting the members 1 to position second ends in contact with each other, an imaging unit 6 mounted on one of the member for detecting exact location of the discs installed with the pole, a pair of L-shaped telescopically operated links 4 to extend for positioning a pair of motorized omnidirectional wheels 7 in contact with pole, and a motorized pivot joint 10 for providing a to-and-fro motion to the bar 9 to strike the hammer 2 on the disc for breaking the disc."
