MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641061640 A) filed by Rotatum Mechatronics Private Limited, Hyderabad, Telangana, on May 15, for 'high-torque modular actuator with integrated zero-backlash strain wave gearing and thermal management.'

Inventor(s) include Deepak Reddy Bandakunta.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to high-torque modular actuator (0) with integrated zero-backlash strain wave gearing (24) and thermal management. A modular actuator (0) comprises a harmonic gear (24), a frameless motor (36) with a motor stator (15) and motor rotor (16), and a brake (27). To structurally achieve zero backlash, the wave generator is integrally formed into a single unified shaft (23), which acts as the central structural spine, directly supporting the motor rotor (16), a brake plate (26), an absolute encoder wheel (4), and support bearings. The structural architecture ensures that altering the harmonic gear (24) ratio does not change the actuator's external form factor. For thermal management, the motor stator (15) features an encapsulated, segmented lamination structure potted with waterproof epoxy, ensuring an IP65 rating. An independent sensing mechanism monitors the brake (27), which utilizes adjustable internal springs (33) to safely engage the brake plate (26) and prevent unwanted movement."
