MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611049990 A) filed by Isha Mishra; Anubhav Saxena; and Astha, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on April 20, for 'herbtrace - blockchain-enabled smart monitoring, control, and traceability system for entire supply chains (agriculture and medical).'

Inventor(s) include Anubhav Saxena; and Astha.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The current invention is associated with a combined blockchain-based smart monitoring and traceability framework that can be implemented to achieve quality maintenance, transparency, and accountability in the supply chain of herbal medicines and agricultural products. The system combines Internet of Things (IoT)-based environmental sensing, automated control mechanisms, predictive analytics, and decentralized blockchain technology to address challenges associated with post-harvest losses and lack of traceability. The invention is a sensor-based storage and transportation box that can perform constant monitoring of parameters such as temperature, humidity, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and weight (optionally). The sensed data is then processed by a microcontroller based system and sent in real time to a cloud based backend via communication protocols like MQTT. The environmental conditions are dynamically controlled by a control module with the help of such actuators as Peltier-based thermal units, ventilation systems, and humidity regulators on the basis of predetermined herb-specific values. An example of forecasting risk-hour model is used to determine the remaining safe storage time by forecasting the future using real time and past data and consequently, proactive interventions are conducted. All events such as sensor readings, alerts, threshold violations and stakeholder actions are safely stored on a blockchain network to achieve immutability and transparency. The system also offers a real-time monitoring system, an alert management system and traceability via web or mobile-based systems. The invention plays a vital role in improving the quality of products, limiting spoilage, increasing the effectiveness of supply chains and creating a sense of trust in the consumer by providing verifiable and non-modifiable records."
