MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611001129 A) filed by Ct University, Ludhiana, Punjab, on Jan. 6, for 'herbal oil for dry eye disease and process thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Bishal Singh; Dr. Nitin Tandon; Sanjay Dhiman; Dr. Sharuti Mehta; Dr. Anuj Kumar; Bhupinder Singh; and Dr. Gaurav Verma.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Sea buckthorn oil offers significant benefits in the management of dry eye disease due to its unique nutritional and anti-inflammatory profile. It is one of the few natural sources rich in omega-7 fatty acid (palmitoleic acid), which helps nourish and regenerate mucous membranes, including the ocular surface. This supports improved tear film stability and reduces dryness and irritation. The oil also contains omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which help reduce inflammation of the meibomian glands, a key cause of evaporative dry eye. By improving lipid layer quality, sea buckthorn oil helps slow tear evaporation and enhances natural eye lubrication. Additionally, its high antioxidant content, including vitamin E and carotenoids, protects eye tissues from oxidative stress and environmental damage. Regular use of sea buckthorn oil may help relieve burning, redness, and eye fatigue, improving overall eye comfort and visual quality in individuals with dry eye disease."
