MUMBAI, India, June 16 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611054572 A) filed by Dr. Shrushti Raju Thakare; Dr. Sfurty Prakash; Dr. Anita Choudhary; and Dr. Angha U. Patil, Jaipur, Rajasthan, on April 29, for 'herbal mouthwash formulation for plaque control.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Shrushti Raju Thakare; Dr. Sfurty Prakash; Dr. Nitin Sharma; Dr. Suchitra Shukla; Dr. Khushbu Soni; Dr. Eemana F. Bhat; Dr Richa Ray Nagori; Mohini Digambar Ninawe; Ankit Kumar Kamalsingh Barele; and Namrata Gajanan Gavhankar.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses an herbal mouthwash formulation intended for plaque control in children. The dispersible tablet, when dissolved in water, forms a mouthwash containing Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) fruit extract in an amount of 1-2 % w/w and Jamun (Syzygium cumini) seed extract in an amount of 2-4 % w/w, as active herbal ingredients. The other ingredients include, zinc oxide in an amount of 22-25 % w/w, sodium bicarbonate in an amount of 22-25 % w/w, citric acid in an amount of 4-6 % w/w, xylitol in an amount of 4-7 % w/w, magnesium stearate in an amount of 2-4 % w/w, menthol in an amount of 2-4 % w/w, croscarmellose sodium in an amount of 14-18 % w/w; and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) K-30 in an amount of 4-6 % w/w. The dispersible tablets are formulated to ensure rapid dispersion, acceptable palatability, stability, and pharmaceutical quality. The herbal mouthwash demonstrated antimicrobial activity against oral pathogens."
