MUMBAI, India, Nov. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531108731 A) filed by Nagaland University, Zunheboto, Nagaland, on Nov. 10, for 'herbal green tea.'

Inventor(s) include Mr. Samson Rosly Sangma; Dr. Mayur Mausoom Phukan; Dr. Pritom Chowdhury; Dr. Biswa Ranjan Phukan; Dr. Rupesh Kumar; Ms. Diksheeta Sharma; Dr. Plaban Bora; Dr. Pitambar Sedai; and Dr. Pranay Punj Pankaj.

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 28, under issue no. 48/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a although green tea and medicinal plant extracts have many advantages, heat, pH variations, and oxygen frequently undermine their stability. A new herbal green tea made using spray-dried microcapsules that contain polyherbal extracts from nine therapeutic plants is presented in this invention. The maltodextrin-encapsulated microcapsules demonstrated outstanding solubility (90.61%), good encapsulation efficiency (88.18%), and thermal stability up to 200 C. Spherical forms are detected by morphological study, and bioactive chemicals possessing antibacterial, anticancer, and antioxidant qualities are discovered by GC-MS analysis. Effective protection of bioactives during digestion is confirmed by in vitro tests. In addition to showing excellent consumer acceptability for flavor and general preference, the herbal green tea also showed good hemocompatibility and considerable antiproliferative action against colorectal cancer cells."
