MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311088293 A) filed by Chandigarh University; and Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator, Mohali, Punjab, on Dec. 22, 2023, for 'heat mitigation system for railway train wheels.'

Inventor(s) include Shivam Pandey; Abhineet Anand; Kavita; Anjana; and Kangan Arora.

The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A heat mitigation system for railway train wheels, comprises of an L-shaped hollow body 1 associated with the system and developed to be installed on locomotive of a railway train for collecting ambient air from surroundings, a cylinder 2 for storing the collected air, a motorized lid 3 to close for preventing over-filling of the cylinder 2, plurality of temperature sensors for detecting the temperature of the wheels, plurality of electronic valves 5 paired with the cylinder 2 via plurality of conduits for blowing streams of air on the wheels of the train to reduce the temperature of the wheels, plurality of electronic nozzles 6 for dispensing water on the wheels of the train in order to prevent damage to the wheels due to over-heating, and a chamber 7 dedicated towards storage of water discharged from air conditioning system of the train."
