MUMBAI, India, Aug. 8 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517064420 A) filed by Uk Atomic Energy Authority, Abingdon, U.K., on July 6, for 'heat engine.'
Inventor(s) include Acres, James Jack.
The application for the patent was published on Aug. 8, under issue no. 32/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A closed working fluid type heat engine (100) for use in electrical power generation in the context of a fusion power system (200) is described. The heat engine comprises a primary heat exchanger (102) coupled to a primary heat source (106), and a secondary heat exchanger (108) coupled to a secondary heat source (110). The secondary heat source is thermally independent from the primary heat source, and the primary heat source has greater temperature than the secondary heat source. The heat engine also comprises a main turbine (104) and an auxiliary turbine (116). The turbines are configured in flow parallel, with a branch point for the parallel flow being arranged in between the primary heat exchanger and the secondary heat exchanger. The main turbine receives working fluid heated by the secondary heat exchanger and the primary heat exchanger, while the auxiliary turbine receives working fluid heated by the secondary heat exchanger. The heat engine also comprises a first recuperator (124) configured to thermally couple working fluid outflow from the main turbine to working fluid inflow to the primary heat exchanger. A suitable nuclear power system and method of operation thereof are also described."
The patent application was internationally filed on Dec. 07, 2023, under International application No.PCT/GB2023/053159.
