MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123993 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 9, 2025, for 'harnessing rhizophora apiculata extracts for immune modulation and histopathological insights in zebra fish (danio rerio): a sustainable approach to combact aeromonas hydrophila infections.'

Inventor(s) include Santhosh Krishnamoorthy; Sivaperumal Pitchiah; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to a sustainable and eco-friendly application of Rhizophora apiciilata extracts for mitigating bacterial infections in aquaculture. In recent years, the global aquaculture industry has faced significant challenges due to the rise in antibiotic resistance and the detrimental environmental impact of chemical treatments. This invention addresses these challenges by utilizing R. apiculata extracts, prepared using green methods, which are rich in bioactive compounds and exhibit significant therapeutic efficacy against fish pathogen {Aeromonas hydrophila). The mangrove crude extract enhances immune response by modulating key markers such as cytokines (IL-Ip, TNF-a, HSP70) and antioxidant enzymes (Catalase, SOD, GPx) while maintaining the histopathological integrity of vital organs in zebrafish {Danio rerio). Studies will be conducted over recent years have confirmed the extract's non-toxic nature at effective concentrations, demonstrating its potential as a natural alternative to antibiotics. This innovation contributes to sustainable disease management, offering a safer and eco-friendly solution for maintaining fish health and boosting aquaculture productivity in fish farming."
