MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521098218 A) filed by Faraz Ahmad; and Dr. Ekram Khan, Narmada Nagar, Madhya Pradesh, on Oct. 12, 2025, for 'hardware implemented payload bus for ultra image compression and method thereof.'
Inventor(s) include Faraz Ahmad; Dr. Ekram Khan; Musharraf Abdullah; and Ilma Shah.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The payload bus is a key component in satellites, drones, and aerial craft, particularly for imaging payloads used in surveillance, Earth observation, and remote sensing. Image compression is critical to reduce transmission costs, bandwidth licensing fees, and storage demands. Existing standards like JPEG, JPEG2000, PNG, and WebP achieve compression ratios of up to 5 with minimal loss and up to 20 with noticeable loss. However, rising demand for high-resolution imaging requires systems that balance processing speed, memory, size, and power consumption. The disclosed invention introduces a lightweight, plug-and-play hardware payload bus with ultra-image compression up to 80 (98.75% reduction). It is compact ( 0.5U), energy-efficient, and memory-optimized. The system supports standard communication protocols (I2C, UART, SPI, CAN, RS485, PCIe) for subsystem integration, and external interfaces (USB, DSI, CSI, TCP/IP) for peripherals."
