MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122140 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 4, 2025, for 'handwriting-based emotion recognition system for educational assessment.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a computer-implemented method for emotion recognition through handwriting analysis in examination contexts. The method includes acquiring digital images of handwritten examination scripts, converting images into digital text using machine learning-based text recognition, extracting handwriting characteristics that correlate with emotional states, classifying emotional states using a trained machine learning model, analyzing sentiment of digital text, and generating emotional assessments by combining handwriting-based emotion classification and text-based sentiment analysis. The system comprises an image acquisition module for capturing digital images, a handwritten text recognition module with machine learning for converting images to digital text, a feature extraction module for extracting handwriting characteristics, an emotion classification module with trained machine learning for classifying emotional states, a sentiment analysis module for analyzing emotional content, and an integration module for combining outputs to generate emotional assessments."
