MUMBAI, India, Aug. 8 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411007034 A) filed by Chandigarh Group Of Colleges, Mohali, Punjab, on Feb. 2, 2024, for 'handheld sugarcane leaves removal assistive device.'

Inventor(s) include Ramandeep Singh Deorda; Ravinder Singh; and Himanshu Bagri.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A handheld sugarcane leaves removal assistive device, comprises of an elongated body 1 having a first and a second portion which is gripped by a user via a handle 4, a camera 5 to detect exact location of sugarcanes within a bundle, multiple C-shaped extendable members 7 configured with a ring 6 via links 8 to rotate for gripping the sugarcanes within the members 7, a laser projection unit 10 mounted on the body 1 to guide the user for moving the body 1 in to-and-fro motion along with height of the sugarcane for removing leaves from the sugarcane via a curved-shaped extendable blade 11 configured with each of the members 7."
