MUMBAI, India, Nov. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411024927 A) filed by Chandigarh University; and Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator, Mohali, Punjab, on March 27, 2024, for 'hand-held drill bit sharpening assistive device.'
Inventor(s) include Nishant Ranjan.
The application for the patent was published on Nov. 7, under issue no. 45/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A hand-held drill bit sharpening assistive device comprises of a cylindrical shaped hollow frame 1 having a first as well as second portion developed to accommodate a drill bit that is to be sharpened, a handle 2 for providing grip to the user while handling the frame 1, a laser acuity sensor for detecting diameter of the drill bit, a motorized iris lid 4 for gripping the mouth portion of the drill bit in a secured manner, a circular cylindrical member 5 having an robotic gripper 7 for gripping the accommodated drill as well as position the drill bit within the member 5, a magneto-inductive sensor for detecting sharpness of the drill bit, a capacitance sensor for determining material of the drill bit, and an electronic nozzle 6 for dispensing water on the tip portion of the drill bit."
