MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641025436 A) filed by Dayananda Sagar College Of Engineering, Bangalore, Karnataka, on March 4, for 'guided design of functionalized biogenic cellulose- nano chitosan hybrid biomaterials for tissue engineering.'
Inventor(s) include Shashank A Tidke; Vidya G; N. Rajeswari; K. S. Anantharaju; Ravindra B N; Aparna M; and Dinesh S. Reddy.
The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Biogenic cellulose and chitosan-based hybrid biomaterials are potential alternatives to synthetic polymers offering outstanding biocompatibility, non-toxic, antimicrobial properties and ecofriendly that makes these biomaterials decidedly suitable for biomedical applications. Hybrid biomaterials play a well-known in mechanobiology by giving a suitable platform that mimic cellular responses such as mechanical or physical signals of instinctive tissues. Hybrid biomaterials show key advantages in mechanobiology field and well suitable for tissue engineering applications such as Improves mechanotransduction, engineered mechanical properties, creation of 3D scaffolds for healthier simulate in vivo environments, functionalization and biocompatibility and amalgamation with sensing applications. For the present invention biogenic cellulose and nano chitosan hybrid biofilms or scaffolds imitates biochemical and mechanical characteristics of the extracellular matrix facilitate cell proliferation, adhesion and also mechanotransduction. Biomaterials green- synthesized by scalable technique using nano chitosan and functionalized cellulose. The ensuing hybrid film and scaffold having tunable surface functionality, mechanical strength, porosity and stiffness. Various characterizations involved using X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy, FTIR, atomic force microscopy etc. and in vitro mechano- simulative cell assays. The hybrid material supports, hemostatic, mucoadhesiveness, upsurges stem cell addon, bone regeneration, and neural tissue engineering."
