MUMBAI, India, June 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517046482 A) filed by Nippon Steel Corporation, Tokyo, on May 14, for 'grain-oriented electromagnetic steel sheet.'

Inventor(s) include Iwaki, Masataka; Morishige, Nobusato; Kataoka, Takashi; Atsumi, Haruhiko; and Takahashi, Masaru.

The application for the patent was published on June 6, under issue no. 23/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention enables the achievement of a grain-oriented electromagnetic steel sheet which is further reduced in noise without deteriorating the iron loss reduction effect by controlling the shape of linear grooves that are formed for magnetic domain segmentation and the Sa values of the surface roughness of the bottom surfaces and lateral surfaces inside the grooves within specific ranges. A grain-oriented electromagnetic steel sheet according to the present invention is provided with a steel sheet that contains, in mass%, 2.50% to 4.50% of Si and 0.01% to 0.15% of Mn, with the balance being made up of Fe and impurities, and has a steel sheet surface which has linear grooves that are formed at intervals of 2 mm to 10 mm so as to extend in a direction that is at 0 to 30 to the transverse direction to the rolling direction; the depth D of the grooves is 10 m to 40 m; the width W of the grooves is 20 m to 200 m; the Sabottom value of the surface roughness of the bottom surfaces inside the grooves is more than 5.0 m; and the Salateral surface value of the surface roughness of the lateral surfaces inside the grooves is 1.0 m to 5.0 m."

The patent application was internationally filed on Nov. 22, 2023, under International application No.PCT/JP2023/041949.
