MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122108 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 4, 2025, for 'gesture-based assistive communication system with email notification.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a gesture-based assistive communication system comprising a camera (10) configured to capture real-time video of hand movements, a processing unit operatively connected to the camera (10), a hand tracking module configured to extract twenty-one hand landmark coordinates from the captured video, a gesture classification module configured to recognize predefined hand gestures from the extracted landmark coordinates, wherein the gesture classification module is trained to recognize gestures suitable for elderly users with motor limitations, and an email notification module configured to automatically generate and transmit email alerts via SMTP protocol to designated caregiver email addresses upon detection of the predefined gestures. The system enables elderly and mobility-impaired users to communicate assistance needs through natural hand movements without requiring wearable devices, while maintaining user privacy through local processing and ensuring reliable caregiver notification through email infrastructure."
