MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521127630 A) filed by Sunita N. Vaidya; and Dr. Surendra S. Agrawal, Wardha, Maharashtra, on Dec. 16, 2025, for 'gastroretentive multi-unit dual-release particulate system of ranolazine.'

Inventor(s) include Sunita N. Vaidya; Dr. Surendra S. Agrawal; Pranita Jirvankar; Swati Fulmali; and Dr. Pravina Gurjar.

The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present 5 invention relates to a gastroretentive multi-unit oral pharmaceutical composition of ranolazine comprising a population of immediate-release pellets and a population of sustained-release floating pellets. The immediate-release pellets comprise ranolazine and a disintegrant and are adapted to release not less than 70% of the drug within 30 minutes in simulated gastric fluid. The sustained-release 10 pellets comprise ranolazine dispersed in a hydrophobic polymer matrix and coated with a rate-controlling polymer layer, the pellets having a density lower than gastric fluid such that they remain buoyant for at least 8 hours and provide controlled release over 8 to 12 hours. The composition exhibits a biphasic release profile comprising an initial rapid release phase followed by a sustained release phase. The 15 invention further relates to a process for preparing the composition by pelletization, coating, blending and encapsulation or compression into a multiple-unit dosage form. The composition is suitable for use in the management of chronic stable angina."
