MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122966 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'fusion-based system for middle ear infection detection.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Lydia Jane G; Hamza Khan; and Amaan Khan.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a fusion-based system for detecting middle ear infections. The system includes an image analysis module configured to receive otoscopic images of a tympanic membrane and process the otoscopic images using a convolutional neural network to generate image-based diagnostic classifications indicating presence or absence of middle ear infection. A tympanometry analysis module receives tympanometry data from tympanometric examinations and processes the tympanometry data using a machine learning classifier to generate tympanometry-based diagnostic classifications indicating presence or absence of middle ear infection. A decision fusion module (FIG. 1) receives the image-based diagnostic classifications from the image analysis module and the tympanometry-based diagnostic classifications from the tympanometry analysis module, and combines the image-based diagnostic classifications and the tympanometry-based diagnostic classifications using a fusion methodology to generate a final diagnostic output indicating presence or absence of middle ear infection."
