According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to the development of a novel herbal lip balm formulation for the management and treatment of angular cheilitis. The formulation incorporates plant-based oils and extracts including moringa extract, neem oil, coconut oil, lemon grass oil, and Tween 80, which collectively provide emollient, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and woundhealing properties. Unlike conventional petroleum-based lip balms, the invention utilizes eco- friendly and biocompatible natural ingredients to deliver both therapeutic relief and cosmetic benefits. The prepared lip balm exhibited uniform texture, smooth spreadability, stability under different storage conditions, and absence of phase separation. Evaluation studies demonstrated its effectiveness in providing moisturization, protection from external irritants, and targeted antimicrobial activity against Candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus, the common causative agents of angular cheilitis. Clinical observations indicated relief from dryness, cracks, and burning sensation with enhanced healing of lesions, confirming its potential as a safe, patient-friendly, and sustainable formulation for the prevention and treatment of angular cheilitis."
