MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641021588 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 24, for 'foot strengthening mat for kids.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. P A Vithra A; Dr. Sowmiy A K H; and Dr. Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A novel invention that helps in the strengthening the intrinsic foot muscles which indirectly helps in maintaining the balance, posture, improve hip movements and their gait pattern. It can be given in Physiotherapy clinics, rehabilitation centers and hospital sectors. When the kid grip the ring or the toys using the toes it activates the small muscles of the foot which helps in improving the balance, posture and there by improves the gait pattern. The kids is asked to move the ring or toys from one side to other which activates the hip movement. Previously fool strengthening exercise is given by picking pebbles with toes or towel curling which the kid may feel hard to understand and losses their interest to participate. This Mat keeps the child entertained."
