MUMBAI, India, July 25 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411004742 A) filed by Chandigarh University; and Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator, Mohali, Punjab, on Jan. 23, 2024, for 'food item eating assistive device.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A food item eating assistive device, comprising a plate 1 having a first and second portion 2, 3, wherein the first portion 2 is configured with a pair of extendable C-shaped members 4 to accommodate adjacent fingers of user's hand, a camera 5 installed on plate 1 for capturing multiple images of user's fingers, a motorized slider 6 for translating members 4 to allow user to comfortably accommodate members 4 over fingers, an ultrasonic sensor configured with each of members 4 for detecting dimensions of user's fingers, a V-shaped unit 7 constructed with a pair of links utilized by user for gripping snack item to be consumed by user, a tactile sensor configured with one of links for detecting hardness of snack item, an electromagnetic spring 8 to compress for pulling links towards each other and a motorized hinge 9 for providing to-and-fro motion to unit 7."
