MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641021586 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 24, for 'foam ball -triggers.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Tswarya S; Dr. Girtdharan S; and Dr. Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a deformable, tennis-ball-sized myofascial release device engineered for safe and effective trigger-point pressure, particularly suited tor users with limited soft-tissue padding or bony prominences. Conventionalmyofascial release balls such as solid rubber, lacrosse, or tennis ball are often too rigid, non-adjustable, and uncomfortable, causing excessive focal pressure, pain, or even bruising when applied to sensitive or bony areas. These existing tools lack adjustability in stiffness and surface contouring, resulting in uneven pressure distribution and reduced user safety and compliance. The proposed device overcomes these limitations through a multi-layer adaptive design comprising an outer low-friction hygienic skin, a soft-compliant foam outer layer, and a shaped adaptive contact surface with a concave or contoured rim for controlled pressure spread. A removable internal insert or core made of memmy-gel or collapsible honeycomb structure allows the user to customize stiffness and contact geometry to suit different muscle regions and bone prominences. Additionally, the device includes simple attachment options, such as a removable strap or handle, for better control and positioning, and an optional visual indicator ring to guide safe pressure application. This innovative contiguration provides precise, adjustable load distribution while maintaining effective focal compression for trigger-point release, ensuring improved comfort, safety, and therapeutic et1icacy compared to existing rigid massage or myofascial release balls on the market."
