MUMBAI, India, April 20 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202514089500 A) filed by Primetals Technologies Japan, Ltd., Hiroshima, Japan, on Sept. 19, 2025, for 'flying shear.'

Inventor(s) include Sakamoto, Yoshitaka; Tomikawa, Masao; and Morimura, Koji.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The likelihood of cutting failure at the start of cutting is reduced in a flying shear including one pair 5 of drums each having helical knives. A flying shear includes: one pair of drums that are provided facing each other and rotatable around their respective rotational axes as centers; and at least one pair of helical knives that are provided on outer circumferential sides 10 respectively of the one pair of drums and each have a cutting edge of an elliptical arc shape. The flying shear is configured such that, with respect to a reference plane passing through the rotational axes respectively of the one pair of drums, cutting surfaces 15 of the one pair of helical knives are offset toward a side where a cutting target enters, while at the same time one of the cutting surfaces and the other one of the cutting surfaces are parallel, at least at a center in an axis line direction of each of the rotational axes."
