MUMBAI, India, Oct. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421031805 A) filed by Thakore Sonal Ishit; and Harshil Kirtikumar Thakkar, Vadodara, Gujarat, on April 22, 2024, for 'fluorescent lignin hydrogel strips for detection of toxic lead ions in water..'
Inventor(s) include Thakore Sonal Ishit; and Harshil Kirtikumar Thakkar.
The application for the patent was published on Oct. 24, under issue no. 43/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Fluorescent lignin hydrogel strips fordetection of toxic lead ions in water. The present invention relates to process for fabrication of robusthybrid fluorescent hydrogelfrom waste plastic derivedcarbon dots and biomass, through a low-cost, non-toxic, and green approach. The hydrogel could detect presence of toxic lead metal in water by fluorescence quenching. Fluorescent carbon dots were synthesized from non-biodegradable plastic waste using sustainable hydrothermal carbonization approach. A stable fluorescent biodegradable hydrogel was synthesized by reaction of lignin with L-arginine through DBS mediated dissolution and regeneration approach followed by reaction with carbon dots. The fluorescenthydrogel coated paper stripkits were fabricated for rapid, on-site selective and ultra-sensitive lead detection in wastewater."
