MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122253 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 4, 2025, for 'flood detection system using satellite image fusion and mobilenet.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Adaline Suji R; Mr. Manoj A; and Ms. Nithya Vangala.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a flood detection system comprising a data acquisition module configured to collect visible light and thermal satellite imagery of a geographic region, an image fusion module configured to apply Principal Component Analysis to combine the imagery into fused satellite imagery, a preprocessing module configured to process the fused imagery to generate preprocessed data suitable for neural network input, a MobileNet convolutional neural network architecture configured to classify regions as flooded or non-flooded areas, and an output module configured to generate flood detection results. The image fusion module flattens the imagery into feature vectors, stacks the vectors to create a combined dataset, and applies Principal Component Analysis to extract principal components capturing features from both imagery types. The preprocessing module resizes images to match MobileNet input dimensions, normalizes pixel values to 0 to 1, and applies data augmentation techniques."
