MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531132751 A) filed by Asansol Engineering College, Asansol, West Bengal, on Dec. 28, 2025, for 'feature selection and classification using hybrid nature inspired algorithm.'
Inventor(s) include Mr. Sabyasachi Mukherjee; Mrs. Shatabdi Mondal; Dr. Bhaskar Roy; and Mr. Ayan Chowdhury.
The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "This invention presents a simultaneous clustering and feature selection algorithm that integrates the Firefly Algorithm with K-Means clustering. The method, termed FKM_FS, optimizes cluster formation while selecting the most relevant features. It balances clustering compactness, separation, and feature relevance using a variance-based scoring mechanism. The algorithm is tested on real and synthetic datasets, demonstrating reduced error classification percentage and fewer selected features compared to existing approaches. The invention enhances clustering accuracy, scalability, and interpretability in high-dimensional unsupervised learning tasks."
