MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511122600 A) filed by Chandigarh University, Mohali, Punjab, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'fastag-based system ensuring vehicle compliance, emissions checks, and automated enforcement.'

Inventor(s) include Simran; Mohit Kumar; Yatharth Sharma; Subham Bisht; and Ujjwal Mishra.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a Fastag-based system ensuring vehicle compliance, emissions checks, and automated enforcement transforms each FASTag scan into a compliance checkpoint, enabling automated verification of key vehicle documents, including the Registration Certificate (RC), Insurance, Driving Licence, and Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, by securely interfacing with government databases such as VAHAN, SARATHI, insurer networks, and PUC registries. The system can optionally integrate with the vehicle's On-Board Diagnostics (OBD-II) interface to collect real-time data on emissions and engine health. A middleware software layer processes this information using rule-based logic to determine appropriate actions: issuing e-challans for expired or missing documents, sending timely reminders for upcoming expirations, or generating maintenance alerts for emission-related issues. Vehicle owners engage with the system through a mobile application that allows document uploads, alert management, and digital payment of fines."
