MUMBAI, India, April 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421075821 A) filed by Sanket Sadashiv Kumbhar, Raigad, Maharashtra, on Oct. 7, 2024, for 'entangling safety mechanism for preventing collisions in vehicles.'

Inventor(s) include Sanket Sadashiv Kumbhar.

The application for the patent was published on April 10, under issue no. 15/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an entangling safety mechanism designed to prevent collisions in vehicles, especially in railways. The mechanism is mounted on a vehicle and comprises a central hub anchored to the vehicle, a central housing connected to the hub via a revolute joint, and has two extendable arms on either side of the housing. The left and right arms are connected via revolute joints to allow rotational movement. A net, with energy-absorbing properties, is anchored between the ends of the arms and the central housing. Upon deployment, the arms unfurl, stretching the net between them to create a catching apparatus designed to entangle objects, such as pedestrians or animals, that come into the vehicle's path. The leading edge of the net faces forward, ensuring that any object in front of the vehicle contacts the net first. Upon contact, the arms rotate inward, grappling the object, and lifting it to prevent it from being run over. The arms then fold back into a compact, dormant position when not in use. This mechanism enhances vehicle safety by reducing fatal accidents involving pedestrians and animals, especially in high-risk environments like railway tracks."
